DURING YOUR LIFETIME, THERE were many times when your Inner Voice, your
Spiritial Blue Zone, (SBZ), spoke to you, but
because you didn't understand what it
was saying, you ignored it. That, my
friend, may have been ONE of
Your Biggest Mistakes.
SUPPOSE YOU UNDERSTOOD
AND ACTED ON WHAT YOUR SPIRITIAL
BLUE ZONE HAS BEEN SAYING TO YOU!
I have lived in this "Spiritial Blue Zone" most of
my life, even as a child, and when I became
an adult, this "Spiritial Blue Zone" was
so much a part of my life that
it became a guiding light
for me... My Story!
BACK DOOR SECRETS™
Wired for Success Before Leaving Home. Ancient Wisdom. Real Stories.
Modern Life. Wisdom, Leadership Mentor. Success Strategist And Storytelling
I help people discover the principles they hopefully, were—wired with before leaving home, and then how apply those principles to decisions, relationships, money, leadership, adversity, and life.
BUT before we proceed, please allow me to introduce you to "My Wisdom Tree," aka "My Six-Pack."
My Mother * My Father
Uncle Joe * Uncle Raymond * Uncle Chest
And My Grandmother
I know I was chosen!
How do I know this? Because God assigned the six angels to educate me! But this story isn't about my six angels or me! It's about how I can help you identify the Angels that God has assigned to you… and how you can apply their wisdom to your life.
You see! God has assigned everyone at least one Angel! And everyone, at one point, knows that and can feel it, even if only for a brief moment. But there is a problem: Once you recognize this and mention that feeling to anyone, you are immediately looked upon as an idiot, even though that person has had the same feeling and has passed it off as a simple heart flash.
But the question that followed was always the same: How did you know that what you did was the right thing to do? For a long time my response was… "I just got lucky, sir."
As I grew stronger and trusted myself more, I started to answer that question more honestly. My answer became: I am not sure, Sir, but I believe that the Spiritual Wisdom of "My Six-Pack" has been deeply ingrained in me!
Of course, my superiors didn't want to address my response. In many cases, they smiled and walked away. In some cases, they wanted to talk with me more. But they kept assigning me the tough jobs. My DD Form 66, my efficiency reports, and my assignments throughout my military career can prove this.
Why am I telling you all this? Simply this: YOU may be traveling "Full Speed" BUT producing at less than Half Speed and enjoying only 1/3 of your efforts!
So what is my purpose?
Simply this: To help you understand some of the many things that your Spirit Guide(s) have been telling you all of your life and the things that they are still telling you almost every day, and how to interpret their wisdom and apply it to your daily life and your way of thinking!
The ball is now in your court; you can either pass or play. The choice is yours!
Be advised: Much of my work is done one-on-one or with couples! However, after our first and possible second session, we will meet on Zoom!
Before I begin, let me tell you a short story!
Many years ago I met a very attractive young lady. Initially, my interest was, well, you know, "That Man and Woman thing." But as I got to know her better, I realized she was far more than "Just a Beautiful Woman," and I became more interested in her inner self! I began to see an inner wisdom I had never seen in anyone before, and I recognized it because that same question I had heard from some of my military bosses began to enter my thoughts about her.
I started to probe! She probably thought that I was trying to learn as much as I could about her for ulterior motives. But in truth I was trying to learn how one so young could apply such spiritual wisdom at such a young age. Every chance I got, I kept probing. I asked about her background, her Mother, her Father, her uncles, her neighbors where she grew up, and every whatever I could think of!
And then one day it hit me. How could I have forgotten to ask about her Grandfather! How could that have happened? Because I never knew my Grandfather. He had passed before I was born.
But the picture has become clear. She told me that she had a special relationship with her Grandfather. She said she spent a lot of time with him and talked with him. Her Grandfather had wired her.
Once I told her why I had so many questions, she immediately understood. She smiled; it was a smile of completeness. She said, yes! It was my Grandfather!
We still talk often! She has told me many times that she has tried to teach and help her employees understand how simple and easy life could be, as I have, but, as with me, I remind her that:
"Only when the student is ready will the teacher appear." - Lao Tzu.
This, as you may know, is a famous proverb about personal growth, open-mindedness, and the timing of life lessons. The proverb basically says that learning depends on the recipient's willingness to learn, not the availability of knowledge. The teacher isn't always a person; it can be a Mentor, a Situation, or even a book. Opportunities to learn are always there, but you must be mentally, emotionally, and spiritually ready to receive them; otherwise, you will look past them.
I can lead you to this door, but you may decide to open it and enter it once I have shown you where to find it, or not!
Some Background
I spent twenty-two years in the military and eight years as a Correctional Counselor with the State of California Department of Corrections, and during those thirty years I have been asked many times: How did you know that was the right thing to do? What led you to do it that way? Why would you risk your career by doing something you knew violated the rules? Why did you do this, that?
While in the military, I was submitted for a Court-martial when I was a young First Lieutenant. In fact, I could have been court-martialed more than once for going against the rules, but I never was. Why? First, because my superiors accepted my somewhat wild explanation for doing what I did! Second, because they knew what I did wasn't for my personal gain but for my troops, not for myself but for those I served with.
Although my time with the California Department of Corrections was short compared to my time in the military, my success was just as complete.
What I remember most is that my Immediate Supervisor, a PhD in Physiology, was constantly on my ass about how I did things. This was a well-known situation. After getting tired of the lip service about how I did my job, I finally told her, "Fire me or get the hell out of my way." She decided to back off!
About six months after I retired, I received an email from her. Here is approximately what she said: "Officer D., I owe you an apology. When I talk with the young men you worked directly with, it seems that all they could remember is what you talked to them about." Truth be told, I didn't talk to them about anything. I told them stories that helped them understand what I wanted them to understand.
I was always very impressed with The Good Doctor; I knew she was honorable and that she meant well. I didn't back off because I knew my approach to counseling young men, active soldiers, and inmates had already proven effective; I saw no need to change what I'd known worked for many years.
I sent an email back thanking her, as I knew that reaching out to me that way could not have been easy, or maybe it was. She was an objective professional. I believe her ordeal with me helped her grow even stronger. Hey Doc, KUDOS! -"the Colonel"
Real Estate Investor
About halfway into his last year at Servite High School, a private High School in Anaheim, CA, my son walked into the house. He announced that he wanted to go to Chapman University, a private University in Orange, California. Loop de Loop! I could barely pay his private high school tuition and fees, and now he is looking at another private school: Chapman University.
Chapman University was close enough to home, which I liked, but the annual cost was pushing $100,000. Although I was able to get his Mother to split the bill with me, it was still far from my budget range, and frankly, I had no idea how I would come up with $50,000 plus all the needed extras! But I agreed! Chapman it was!
Knowing I had to come up with some big bucks fast, $50,000 was definitely NOT within my budget at the time. I knew I had let my mouth and a promise overload my seating area.
I knew that I had to come up with some big bucks and fast! I had heard real estate was the only thing you could make big money on fast, short of something illegal. I decided to try my luck as a real estate investor. My Mother always told me, "God takes care of Fools and babies," and that had clearly rung true for me many times during my military career, so I jumped in.
If you can believe this, the first person I told that I was a real estate investor, a lawyer from Orange County, California, and gave him my "Orange" business card called me about three weeks later. He said he had a house he wanted to sell fast in Lake Elsinore, CA. Long story short, I went down to see the house and fell in love with the trees in the yard, which reminded me of the trees in the yard of the home I grew up in back in Virginia! He wanted $105,000 ($45 thousand cash, and I would assume the balance owed of $60,000, and he would give me the deed. I had already done my due diligence, and I was satisfied that I could pull this purchase off. But he wanted too much!
We negotiated! Hard! My final offer was $19,000 cash, and I would assume the balance owed. He agreed! I gave him two credit card checks, one for $10,000 and one for $9,000, and I assumed the balance. I registered the deed and began the repairs. About two months later, I rented the house out, had it appraised, then refinanced it and collected $40,000. I almost fainted when I saw that check! I knew I had Randy's first year at Chapman covered.
About a year later, I refinanced the house for a second time and pulled another $44,000 out (real estate was going wild in California during this time), and about two years later I sold the house (It closed while I was traveling in China. Overall, I walked away with about $180,000. Randy's Chapman bill was paid in full about three weeks after he graduated.
What I didn't tell you earlier is that the seller told me six other real estate investors had looked at his house and turned him down. And here I was, my first investment property.
Also, what I didn't tell you is that I initially had no plans to buy that property because I felt it was too far away to work on while maintaining a full-time job. However, I decided to look at it with the intention of possibly giving him some advice on how he could sell it. Why? Because I liked the guy and wanted to try and help him … honorable Intentions!
When I look back on that situation, I believe with all my heart that the only reason it happened as it did was that I tried to work with the homeowner in the most honorable manner possible. I intended to help him sell his home. Instead, I became the buyer. Remember what my Mother said: "God takes care of fools and babies!"
Since that deal, my family and I have purchased eleven houses! Two of which are beachfront properties: one in China and one in Long Beach, CA; one in the city of Orange; one in Cerritos; one in Carson; but my most prized purchase is the home that I grew up in back in Virginia… which I later sold to my younger brother.
Let me try and be as clear as I can. I believe the numerous successes I have had over my lifetime were a direct result of how I was built.
For some reason, I spent more time with the members of "My Six-Pack" than anyone else in my family. I think this was because I was truly the "Black Sheep" of the family and they felt that I needed all the extra time they could give me.
I almost got expelled from school in third grade. I was hustling at pool when I was fourteen. There was a time when I carried a sawed-off shotgun in my car! A quiet Bad-Ass!
A Small Bit Of Humor: Often when I pray, I ask God that when He sends for me, He would send My Six-Pack, my lifetime six angels for me. Yes! I know that one angel would be more than I may deserve, BUT I also know that getting all six of my six angels together at one time may delay the trip for me, AND I also know what my dad taught me on my 16 th birthday: don't be afraid to ask for what you want.
And because of what Jesus said:
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." - Matthew 7:7-8
Most people think that the Bible only teaches US how to live to be accepted into the Gates of Heaven. I disagree! I believe the Bible teaches us how to live on Earth … Heaven is the natural result! See: godowdy.com/myfaith
One Final Note!
Sometimes I use stories to help you better understand what I am trying to pass on to you! I teach through stories.
Some are true stories. Some are stories as told to me. Some are about the Power of Positioning. Some are about the Power of Intentions. Some are about the Power of Mindset. Some are about The Power of Love. And most importantly, some are about The Power of Being Whom You Were Intended To Be! Let me help you find your Intended Person Within You!
One afternoon around 2 PM, my first sergeant (Top Soldier) walked into my office and said, "Sir, we have a problem." He informed me that two of our soldiers had been in a fight! I responded, "So what, that's what soldiers do." Top responded, "Not like this, sir." I then asked Top, "What are our NCOs doing about it?" Top then said, "We all have done all that we can, but the problem appears to be getting worse." Top continued, he said, "I am scared that this could blow the company wide open."
Let me put things into perspective so that you can understand Top's concerns! The make op of my company was as follows:
US soldiers—approximately 40 to 50 men and women—and Korean (KATUSA) soldiers—approximately 90 to 100. The problem was that all my unit personnel, Americans and Koreans, were interested in the outcome of this fight. One of the combatants was a Black soldier, and the other was a Korean soldier—an international incident in the making.
I instructed Top to bring both soldiers into my office along with their platoon or section sergeants. Clearly, this was a very sensitive matter. Such matters can and often turn into an International incident! The ice was thin, and I had to figure out how to walk across it without getting my boots wet.
I began by introducing myself, then told them I would resolve the issue between them, but before I got into it, I asked if they trusted me and felt I would be fair. They both nodded in agreement. However, I noticed a slight smile at the corner of the Black soldier's lips. You see, I was also a Black Captain.
The Korean soldier showed some concern. I did not always speak Korean to my Korean soldiers, and so most of them were not aware of my Korean-speaking abilities. During my interview with the Korean soldier, I spoke in Korean and then explained what I had said to the American soldier. I reversed this process throughout this situation.
These concerns were clearly the area that I needed to handle wisely. But because I felt I had already gained significant confidence with both the Korean and the US soldiers, I asked both soldiers if they believed I would be as honorable as possible and, if I made a mistake, whether they would accept my final decision.
They both agreed. I asked this question several times and even asked if they were willing to shake hands on whatever decision I made and then move on! Again, they both agreed. I got them to shake several times in agreement to my final decision.
My next statement was as follows:
OK, GUYS! Since it is already clear that you've resolved your situation by agreeing to accept anything I say, why do I need to decide anything? They both looked at me (as did Top and both of their platoon sergeants) and smiled. I smiled and said, "Get your asses out of my office and get back to work!"
After they left, my first sergeant looked at me and asked, "Sir, what the hell just happened?" I laughed! He left my office, and as he went out, I asked him to close my door!
It was at that moment that I said the following prayer: "Dear God, you have given me great power over the lives of all of these soldiers, American and Korean soldiers; please also give me the strength, wisdom, and the courage always to be as honorable as possible and always lead with the best of intentions.
Several weeks later, I ordered that all barracks be consolidated (meaning that Korean and American soldiers would hereafter live in the same living quarters. This was a First in The Republic of Korea!
How well did this work!
I was selected to command two more companies while in Korea (36 months straight), and the last unit (21 T-Car) would provide transportation (Taxi support) to US President Jimmy Carter!
PS: I was a bit sad about this move because one of my best friends, another captain, was removed from that command so that they could move me into that position. But my experience and my record as a commander could not be denied!
